Staff from the Forest Grove District Protection, Forest Resources and State Forests programs along with South Fork crews and local fire departments responded to two separate fires between 11:00 AM and Noon on Mother's Day. Both fires serve as reminders that the heat warnings with high temperatures and east winds have started earlier than usual bringing increased chances of fires with them.
The first fire reported was off of Timber Road between Highway 6 and Highway 26. It was about 1/3 of an acre. All firefighting resources were released from the scene by 5:00 PM. The fire will be in patrol status, getting daily check-ins starting on Monday, May 15, 2023.
The second fire was located on private property in rural Yamhill county. It was between 10 and 15 acres burning in slash-type fuels. By 6:00 PM the fire had a dozer line all of the way around it. Active suppression activities will continue into Monday.
Please call your local fire departments or fire districts to learn about burning restrictions before lighting your debris piles.
