The Ball Bearing Hill Fire was reported by a member of the public at 1:45 AM on Monday, August 21, 2023. The caller said they could see a, "glow in the distance the size of a football field".
Firefighters from the Oregon Department of Forestry responded along with resources from McMinnville Fire, Yamhill Fire and Carlton Fire.
Arriving on scene, firefighters found a wildland fire spreading on a steep hillside about 10 miles west of Carlton on Ball Bearing Hill.
Fire crews and air resources worked all morning to hold the fire at about 4 acres.
Indications are that this fire was human caused. Anyone with information about the cause of the fire or about people engaging in recreation activities in the Ball Bearing Hill area off of High Heaven Road in the 48 hours leading up to the report of fire are encouraged to call the Oregon Department of Forestry at 503.357.2191.
