This morning at 11:15, Oregon Department of Forestry and partners responded to burning vehicle and resulting wildland fire along the Wilson River Highway.  Crews arrived to find a motorhome fully engulfed with flames and fire spreading to the forest. Firefighters made a quick attack on the flames spreading through the trees. Forest Grove Fire & Rescue, Cornelius Fire Department, Gaston Fire Department, Banks Fire District, Oregon Department of Transportation, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office all responded and helped suppress the fire, extinguish the motorhome, and keep motorists and firefighters safe. The highway was completely closed to traffic for almost two hours.

Washington County emergency services are especially ready for wildland fires at this time of year and urge everyone to be mindful of fire danger. This is a good reminder that area forests are dry and fires can easily spread. Most fires in Northwest Oregon are caused by humans, so take extra precautions when out in the forests or traveling through them. Remember, one less spark, one less fire.
